A liquid-cooled server is a server system that uses liquid cooling technology to reduce server temperature. Traditional servers usually use air cooling to dissipate heat, while liquid-cooled servers use liquid media to directly contact the heat dissipation components to effectively absorb and remove the heat generated.
Liquid-cooled servers work by introducing a cooling liquid (usually water or a specialized liquid cooling medium) into the server system, where it flows along the surface of the cooling components and absorbs the heat generated. The heat is then conducted through a heat exchanger to the coolant to an external heat dissipation device (such as a cooling tower or cooling plate), where it dissipates heat and cools down before being recycled again. Liquid cooling technology dissipates heat more efficiently, keeping the server at a lower temperature, thereby improving server performance and stability.
Liquid-cooled servers have some advantages over traditional air-cooled servers:
Higher heat dissipation efficiency: The heat conduction performance of liquid cooling medium is better than that of air, which can absorb and dissipate heat more effectively, providing a more efficient heat dissipation effect.
Better cooling effect: The liquid cooling medium can directly contact the heat dissipation components, effectively lowering the temperature and reducing the overheating problem that occurs when the server is under high load.
Better utilization of space: The liquid cooling system can reduce the air circulation requirements in the server cabinet, thus increasing the density of servers in the cabinet and saving space.
Energy saving and environmental protection: Compared with traditional air cooling systems, liquid cooling servers can significantly reduce energy consumption, reduce energy costs, and reduce carbon emissions.
Liquid-cooled server technology is currently widely used in high-performance computing (HPC), artificial intelligence (AI), big data processing and other fields. These applications have high heat dissipation requirements when processing large amounts of data and performing complex calculations. As technology continues to advance and costs decrease, liquid-cooled servers are expected to be adopted in more data centers and enterprise environments and contribute to server performance improvements and energy efficiency improvements.
