Glycol chiller is a kind of cooling water equipment with constant temperature, constant current and constant pressure. Its main function is to cool the water inside the working host to ensure that it is within a constant temperature range. Generally speaking, glycol chiller consists of refrigeration system, water system and control system. The refrigeration system is composed of independent compressor refrigeration system, including compressor, condenser, thermal expansion valve, plate heat exchanger and refrigerant pipeline. The biggest advantage of glycol chiller is that the mixture of glycol has antifreeze effect, which can avoid freezing of circulating water during use at 0 ℃, and will not cause faults during operation.

Working Principle of Glycol Chillers                                                                                                          

For the low-temperature chiller using ethylene glycol solution, we call it glycol chiller. Its outlet water temperature is generally below – 10 ℃, and the specific temperature requirements shall be subject to the needs of users. Glycol chillers are common in chemical plants. In order to ensure the safe and stable operation of equipment, many chemical plants will strictly require water chillers to take explosion-proof measures, that is, what we often call explosion-proof water chillers.

The structural composition of the water chiller is roughly the same, which is composed of compressor, evaporator, condenser, throttling element and electric control system. However, the glycol chiller adopts low-temperature compressor and is equipped with economic separator and other components, which are still different.

1、In order to keep the pressure in the evaporator low enough to ensure that the refrigerant evaporates at a sufficiently low boiling temperature, a compressor is used to extract the evaporated refrigerant gas, that is, the refrigerant steam with low temperature and low pressure is compressed into a refrigerant gas with high temperature and high pressure. When the suction speed of the compressor is greater than the evaporation speed of the refrigerant, the evaporation pressure and evaporation temperature will decrease. Conversely, the suction speed of the compressor is less than that of the refrigerant, and the evaporation temperature and pressure will rise accordingly.

2、 High temperature and high pressure refrigerant is condensed into liquid in the condenser. In the condenser, the refrigerant releases heat to air or water lower than its temperature. This part of heat includes the heat absorbed when the refrigerant evaporates in the evaporator and the heat converted when the compressor compresses. Special attention: the temperature of air or water must be lower than that of refrigerant, otherwise the refrigerant cannot release heat, that is, the temperature of cooling medium (cooling tower water or air) must be lower than that of refrigerant gas at the outlet of compressor.

3、Through the restrictor, the pressure of the refrigerant drops from the condensation pressure to the evaporation pressure. The liquid from the condenser is stored in the liquid reservoir. At this time, the refrigerant is in the state of normal temperature and high pressure. After passing through the expansion valve, the boiling point decreases due to the decrease of pressure. After entering the evaporator, the liquid is easy to absorb heat and evaporate.

  • High reliability: using the semi closed compressor as the main engine not only improves the operation efficiency of the compressor itself, but also avoids the leakage problem of starting the compressor, reduces the after-sales service costs such as refrigerant addition and shaft seal replacement, and improves the reliability and convenience of continuous operation of the product for many years.
  • Fully automatic control: Siemens industrial PLC controller and LCD touch screen are used for fully automatic operation. It has the functions of automatic / manual control, parameter setting and calibration, data recording, fault alarm and recording, cumulative operation time recording and so on. It can be fully automatic control without special management.
  • High efficiency and energy saving: the machine with large refrigerating capacity adopts semi closed screw compressor with economizer for operation, which improves the operation efficiency. At the same time, the imported brand 316L stainless steel plate heat exchanger can be selected for the low-temperature evaporator and condenser, and the electronic expansion valve is used for micro accurate adjustment of refrigerant, so as to ensure the efficient and energy-saving operation of the unit under partial load and full load.
  • Convenient energy regulation: on the basis of the energy star regulation of the compressor itself, it is equipped with a special hot gas bypass energy regulation, which can realize 10% ~ 100% stepless energy regulation of the unit.
  • Convenient installation and commissioning: most units are assembled as a whole in the factory, and charged with refrigerant in the factory. After no less than 8h load test, it is ensured that the user can start up at one time and succeed.
